BREAKING NEWS!!

Sky Sports News sources have informed us that prospective mountaineer and ‘footballer’ Sean Doyle has injured himself in a recent charity football tournament!

Early reports suggest that he has suffered possible ligament damage and that his impending climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro is in danger. With less than two weeks left until the attempt to summit Africa begins things are not looking good. However, if Chris Moyles can do it then he should be fine.

On a more positive note, however, the charity tournament played in memory of the late Rob Doyle was a resounding success. With over 15 teams participating and crowds rivalling those at Wigan’s DC stadium, tournament hosts Sean Doyle and Al Kirkley were overjoyed at the turnout. There was a variety of football skills on show with standards ranging from the incredible to the incredibly funny. The winning team of referee’s produced some of the tournament’s best football, while the girls made things interesting and somewhat lowered the standard of play on their pitch for reasons completely unrelated to football, and then of course there was Marvin Henriques!

The tournament was raising money for the charities KIDS and the Stroke Association. Thankfully the charities sent a mutual representative in Gaz Marks who did his best to referee one of the pitches. When Sean asked everyone to stay behind for a drink in the bar after the football there were concerns that the charity money would be put to use sooner than expected! However, after a final count the money raised on the day was a whopping £655!!! With the GiftAid that total is now closer to £850 and is an amazing sum of money that will help both charities continue their fantastic work!

We have still been unable to speak directly to Sean but there are apparently mixed feelings in the Doyle house. He publicly expressed his appreciation for everyone’s generosity and support and was ecstatic at the money raised but privately it is believed that he wept for a day once the money was no longer in his possession. Whether the tears were due to his ‘injury’ or simply because of the realisation that he’ll never hold that same sum of money again we’ll never know!!
